Japan's Toyota Motor Group has decided to take part in the financing of an aircraft project developed by a group of young engineers who hope to develop the vehicle that will light the torch of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. This group was founded in 2012 under the name of Cartivator, announced over the weekend that it has received support of 42.5 million yen over three years from 15 companies belonging to Toyota Group and Toyota itself. The engineers involved in the project, who work at various institutions who develop the Sky Drive during their spare time, confirm that the goal is to come up with the prototype by 2018. "We hope to light the torch at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games" said Tsubasa Nakamura, The technical officer at Cartivator. "We want everyone to be able to fly in the air whenever they want by 2050", said the project's organizers, to ease pressure on public transport, especially in developed countries where drivers are expected to rise sharply. To reflect this vision, "a small aircraft must be able to take off and land vertically without requiring special run way". Sky Drive, which is 2,90 meters long and 1,30 width is designed to fly at 100 kilometers per hour at 10 meters altitude and drive on the ground at 150 kilometers per hour.
